Iranian director Majid Majidi has won an award at the third edition of Slemani International Film Festival in Iraq.

The internationally celebrated director has grabbed the Best Director award from the festival for his latest film 'Beyond the Clouds'.

Born in 1959, Majidi is an Iranian film producer, director and screenwriter. He started acting in amateur theater groups when he was 14.

His first feature film ‘Badook’ (1991) won him a Crystal Simorgh at the Fajr International Film Festival.

In 1999, ‘Children of Heaven’ (1997) was the first Iranian film nominated to receive an Academy Award. The film lost the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, but it won many other international prizes.

Since then, he has directed many successful award-winning movies such as 'The Color of Heaven' (1999).

His latest 'Beyond the Clouds' which is the tale of a wild kid who deals drugs and crisscrosses with his motorbike across the city to make the next drop has also been well-received by international audiences.
